Neustarkenberg

Neustarkenberg is a stone castle situated near Tarrenz at around 1000 meters elevation, built with thick exterior walls and vaulted underground passages. The structure contains rooms for visitors to explore, including brewery areas and residential spaces.

Construction of this castle began in the early 1300s with royal permission and it became home to different noble families over time. In the early 1800s, the Starkenberger Brewery was established, transforming the site into a brewing destination.

The name refers to the rebuilding of the castle by the Starchenberch family in the 1300s. Visitors can experience how the building served as a center for brewing traditions and noble family life.

Wear sturdy shoes when exploring the castle, as paths and interior areas are uneven in places. Access to some upper rooms requires climbing stairs, and the underground passages can be cool.

The castle is home to a special spa experience where visitors can immerse themselves in a blend of water and beer sediment. This wellness offering uses byproducts from the local brewery and attracts people seeking unusual relaxation.
