Wallfahrtskirche Maria Rast, Pilgrimage church in Hainzenberg, Austria.

Wallfahrtskirche Maria Rast is a pilgrimage church situated on elevated ground with a Rococo high altar displaying a statue of the Virgin Mary and the infant Jesus at its center. The interior spaces are arranged simply, allowing the ornate altar to command attention within the modest church structure.

The building was constructed in 1739 to replace an earlier wooden chapel dating to 1659. A rockslide in 1914 caused significant damage to the tower, prompting major repairs.

The name Maria Rast refers to Mary's rest, a concept that shapes how visitors approach this place today. Pilgrims continue a tradition that influences the quiet, devotional character of the site.

The route to the church follows a forest path beginning from Zell am Ziller and is marked with stations along the way. Sturdy walking shoes are advisable since the path is uneven and the elevated location requires some endurance.

A small grotto carved by miners in the 1870s remains visible along the path to the church today. This cave demonstrates the site's connection to the region's mining heritage.
