Schloss Wolfpassing, Protected heritage castle in Wolfpassing, Austria
Schloss Wolfpassing is a four-story castle with baroque features located in Wolfpassing, Austria. The building has a rectangular layout with round towers at the corners, pointed conical roofs, and a two-level arcade courtyard in the center.
The castle was first documented in the 13th century and originally belonged to the Wolfstein family. Through inheritance in 1480, it came into the possession of the Auersperg family, who shaped and maintained it.
The chapel inside displays baroque craftsmanship with elaborate stucco decorations covering the ceilings. Visitors walking through can observe the religious furnishings and the artistic skill of earlier centuries.
The castle today hosts summer theater performances and is accessible to all visitors with barrier-free access. The performance areas and facilities are designed so they can be used by people with different mobility needs.
From 1918 to 1924, the castle sheltered a breeding stud farm for Lipizzaner horses after they had to evacuate from their original location. This period made the place an important stop in the history of this famous horse breed.
