Schloss Ernegg

Schloss Ernegg is a castle in Steinakirchen am Forst featuring a four-sided structure with three stories, arcaded galleries, and a distinctive round staircase tower. The building displays varied facade styles and is topped with a hipped roof that gives it its characteristic silhouette.

The site has roots dating to 1330, and underwent major transformation during the 16th century. Wolfgang von Öder zu Götzendorf and Reichard Streun directed the expansion that converted a bishop's fortress into the castle we see today.

The chapel in the southwestern section dates back to the 14th century and reflects how religious and aristocratic life were intertwined within castle walls. Visitors can see how this private sacred space served the family who lived here.
