Schloss Waidhofen, Waidhofen a.d. Thaya

Schloss Waidhofen is a castle in Waidhofen an der Thaya, Austria, standing on an eastern rise overlooking the town and forming a defining part of the local skyline. The building has a rectangular layout with two floors, red-tiled roofing, and four wings that follow the natural slope of the land.

The castle was first documented in 1171 when Ortolfus de Waidehouven was connected to the site. In the 18th century it underwent significant reconstruction according to architect Andreas Zach's designs, which established much of its current appearance.

The castle displays a notable Sprinzenstein coat of arms stone from 1659 in its passageway, reflecting the local noble heritage. This stone represents the connection between the building and the families who shaped its history over time.

The castle is a protected monument located at a bend of Wienerstrasse within the town's historic fortification system. Its location makes it easily visible from various points in the town and accessible for viewing from outside.

The lower section of a former tower is visible in the northeast corner, integrated into the main structure. This fragment shows that the current building developed from older structures and experienced multiple phases of construction.
