Schloss Weyer

Schloss Weyer is a castle with a rectangular layout in Frohnleiten, situated where the Gramsgraben and Murtal valleys meet. The building still retains sections of its original water-filled ditches along the north and east sides.

The castle was built in the 13th century by the Rabensteiner family and has shaped the region ever since. It underwent major modifications under different owners that permanently altered its structure.

Franz Freiherr von Mayr-Melnhof transformed the castle into a retirement residence for workers from his paper and cardboard manufacturing enterprise in 1946.

The castle serves as a starting point and destination for several hiking trails in the area with varying difficulty levels. These routes connect the valley floor with the surrounding heights and offer options for different amounts of time and fitness.

The original water castle structure incorporated defensive moats, portions of which remain visible along the northern and eastern perimeter of the building.
