Schloss Würting, Heritage château in Offenhausen, Austria
Schloss Würting is a four-towered château in Offenhausen built on an island surrounded by a rectangular water moat and displaying Renaissance design from the 17th century. The structure spans three floors with arcaded corridors along the northwest wing.
First recorded in 814, the property belonged to Count Richarius and later passed to the Counts of Wels-Lambach in the 10th century. These noble families shaped the estate over subsequent generations.
The chapel with its ribbed vaults shows the role this place held for residents' spiritual life over the centuries. The ornate stucco work on ceilings reflects how the owners expressed their status and taste through decoration.
The castle can be viewed from outside, but interior visits require advance arrangement by telephone with those in charge. Visitors should inquire early to schedule a viewing.
The ceremonial hall with its coffered ceiling from 1890 represents a later addition showing different architectural taste than the earlier parts. The paintings that once hung there were eventually recovered and preserved by Upper Austrian conservation authorities.
