Schlossruine Schrattenberg, Medieval castle ruins near Scheifling, Austria.
Schlossruine Schrattenberg is a castle ruin located on elevated terrain near Scheifling in Austria. Four corner pavilions and sections of the original defensive walls remain visible, offering a view of the structure's former layout.
The castle was built in the 12th century and passed through several owners over the centuries. In 1680, Baron Viktor Jakob von Prandegg converted it into a baroque palace, significantly altering its medieval form.
The former administrator's house now hosts international artist gatherings organized by the HOTELPUPIK artist association throughout the year.
Visitors cannot access the interior due to restrictions put in place since 2015, but designated walking paths around the perimeter allow views of the remains. These paths provide different perspectives of the structure from safe distances.
A fire broke out during renovation works in 1915, destroying the main building and numerous art pieces and leaving only the garden pavilions and auxiliary structures intact. This event fundamentally shaped the site's appearance as visitors see it today.
