Stiftskirche St. Peter

Stiftskirche St. Peter is a monastery church in Salzburg with a Romanesque core structure that evolved through several phases of reconstruction over the centuries. The building displays a cross-shaped layout with a distinctive tower and underwent modifications to its dome and vaulting.

The church was founded in the 7th century by Saint Rupert as part of the monastic settlement in Salzburg. A major rebuilding took place in the 1130s under Abbot Balderich, which established the core architectural form that still stands today.

The interior features ceiling paintings from the 1700s showing scenes of Saint Peter's life, which visitors can see while walking through the space. These artworks reflect how the church honors its patron and shape the overall feeling of the nave.
