Schloss Melans

Schloss Melans is a two-story mansion in Absam with a square layout, five window axes on each facade, and a hip roof structure. The building sits at 677 meters elevation and belongs to the Ansitz style of fortified residences common in the region.

The estate was first mentioned around 1300 as a fief of the Augsburg prince-bishopric and suffered destruction by Bavarian troops in 1413. An earthquake in 1689 caused additional structural damage.

The chapel inside was consecrated in 1516 and impresses with its star-vaulted ceiling, which was redesigned in neo-Gothic style during renovation in the 1890s.

The castle is located near Innsbruck in the Tyrol region and is accessible via local roads. Keep in mind that this is a protected monument where access may be restricted.

Along the northeast side runs a 19th-century neo-Gothic arcade with pillars and decorative columns. This architectural addition shows how romantic restoration trends shaped the building during that era.
