Steinhaus Domenig

Steinhaus Domenig is a modern residential building featuring steel-frame and glass construction that rises across multiple levels. At its core, stone quarry formations and water features create the building's distinctive internal structure and character.

Architect Günther Domenig created this residence between 1982 and 2008 on a private property near Lake Ossiach. The project developed over several decades, reflecting the architect's evolving design approach throughout the construction process.

The house demonstrates how contemporary architecture can integrate natural elements into everyday living spaces. The stone formations and water features inside shape how visitors experience and move through the rooms.

A glass cylinder at the building's center displays the groundwater level, revealing it changes throughout the year. Concrete pylons extend two stories below ground, creating an unusual subterranean foundation for a residential space.
