Schlesingerteich, Stausee in Niederösterreich, Bezirk Zwettl
The Schlesingerteich is a reservoir near Bärnkopf in the Zwettl district, covering approximately 5.5 hectares and surrounded by forest. Water flows from the Kleine Ysper and returns to it, creating a cycle that supports trout, carp, and other fish species in clear conditions.
The reservoir was built around 200 years ago to transport logs down the river and support the timber industry of the region. A dam failure in 1997 led to significant repairs completed in 1999 to ensure the structure's safety and durability.
The Schlesingerteich serves as a gathering place where the local community comes together to fish, swim, and spend time in nature. The water and surrounding forest have shaped how people in the region connect with the landscape, creating a space where families and friends build lasting memories across generations.
The site is easily accessible by car with parking nearby and clear signs from Bärnkopf guiding the way. Facilities include toilets, changing rooms, a grassy beach area, simple wooden shelters, and a small shop for drinks and snacks during the warmer months.
A narrow pathway called the Treppelpfad runs directly alongside the water, offering walkers a scenic route through the area. From here, visitors can also access nearby hiking trails, including the popular Ysperklamm, a deep gorge with steep rock faces and shaded forest paths.
