Inani Beach, Coral beach in Cox's Bazar District, Bangladesh.
Inani Beach is a shoreline south of Cox's Bazar where sand and stones sit side by side along the water's edge. Green hills frame the bay behind the beach, and coral blocks along with rock formations rise out of the shallow water close to shore.
This stretch of coast stayed largely untouched for a long time because the area was difficult to reach. Better road connections built in more recent decades opened it up to visitors from Cox's Bazar and beyond.
Local fishermen work along the shore each day using simple boats and nets that have been in use for generations. Visitors can watch the catch being sorted directly on the sand, which gives the beach a working, unhurried rhythm.
The beach is about an hour south of Cox's Bazar by auto rickshaw, and that is the most common way to get there. Arriving in the morning gives the best conditions for exploring the rock formations, when the tide is lower and the light is good.
During the monsoon season, algae coat the coral stones and turn them greenish, while small natural pools form between the rocks. These pools fill with tiny marine creatures that are easy to spot if you walk slowly along the water's edge.
