Teknaf Game Reserve, Game reserve in Teknaf, Bangladesh
Teknaf Game Reserve is a protected forest area covering terrain along the Naf River and Bay of Bengal, featuring hill forests and several caves. The landscape combines dense woodland, rocky slopes, and water features that shape its diverse terrain.
This conservation area was established by the Forest Department in 1983 as Bangladesh's first and only game reserve of its kind. Its creation emerged from the need to protect the region's native wildlife populations.
Several ethnic groups have inhabited these lands for generations, maintaining traditional ways of life that coexist with forest preservation. Visitors can observe settlements and witness how local communities sustainably use natural resources without harming the ecosystem.
Visitors can explore well-marked trails guided by experienced leaders who share knowledge about native wildlife and plants. Plan to spend several hours walking, and wear comfortable shoes since paths cross hills and dense forest areas.
Kudum Cave within the reserve contains underground pools with four fish species found nowhere else in the region. The site also serves as a refuge for significant bat populations that visitors can observe during twilight hours.
