Adinath Temple

Adinath Temple is a Hindu sanctuary located on Mainak Hill on Maheshkhali Island, featuring a compact rectangular structure with inner divisions. The building showcases a domed roof topped with ornamental finials and decorative architectural elements across its surface.

The temple emerged when Saivite and Buddhist practitioners merged their traditions through Tantric practices. This religious convergence shaped the spiritual landscape of the region during the 10th and 11th centuries.

The temple holds two separate worship spaces that honor different Hindu deities in a single sanctuary. Visitors can observe how both Shiva and Durga are venerated side by side, reflecting local religious practice.

The sanctuary sits on an island and requires a boat ride from the mainland to reach it. Access is easiest when weather conditions are favorable and water conditions are calm.

The temple entrance features an unusual curved shape that differs from typical temple gateways. Lotus patterns and circular chakra symbols decorate the structure, giving it a distinctive appearance among other buildings nearby.
