Le Myet Hna Temple, Buddhist temple in Mrauk U, Myanmar
Le Myet Hna is a Buddhist temple in Mrauk U featuring a rectangular sandstone structure with vaulted entrances on all four sides and five stupas rising from its flat roof. The central column is surrounded by Buddha statues, while the architectural design creates both functional and spiritual spaces throughout the building.
King Min Saw Mon, who founded the Mrauk U Kingdom, commissioned the temple in 1430 as one of the first religious structures of the region. This construction was part of his efforts to establish important spiritual centers in the newly founded capital.
The temple houses 28 Buddha statues arranged around the central column, representing the 28 Buddhas mentioned in the sacred Buddhist text Buddhavamsa. This arrangement reflects how important this spiritual number was to believers at the time.
The temple is open to visitors throughout the day and is managed as part of the Mrauk U archaeological site. Entry is included in the general pass that grants access to multiple structures in the area.
Eight stone Buddha statues in the Bhumisparsha mudra position surround the central octagonal column, each facing a different cardinal direction. This arrangement allows visitors to face a Buddha image from virtually every corner of the temple interior.
