Summer Amphitheatre, Open-air theatre in Vitebsk, Belarus
The Summer Amphitheatre is an open-air theatre built into a ravine slope with three sections of tiered seating and a four-story stage building. A large arched roof roughly 25 meters high shelters the audience area, and the entire venue holds around 6,200 spectators.
Construction started in 1987 following architect Vyacheslav Babashkin's design and was completed in just months for the first concert in 1988. The facility was later expanded and upgraded to meet the demands of growing international events.
The venue has been the home of the Slavianski Bazaar since opening, an international arts festival that draws performers and audiences from across the region. This annual gathering shapes the cultural rhythm of the city and connects local artists with visitors from neighboring countries.
The venue features modern lighting and sound systems along with dressing rooms for performers, making it a fully equipped event space. Visitors should know that seating is spread across a slope, so walking distances to and from seats vary depending on location.
The roof rests on a remarkable structure made of around 18,000 metal cores and 3,000 metal balls, allowing it to support loads up to 700 tons. This engineering solution made it possible to create a large covered area without visible supports blocking the view of the stage.
