Pointe-au-Père National Wildlife Area

The protected reserve spans 23 hectares of salt marsh and marine eelgrass beds along the St. Lawrence River in the Bas-Saint-Laurent region.

Local residents initiated the creation of this wildlife sanctuary in 1986 following concerns about landfill operations damaging the ecological site.

Scientists and birdwatchers gather at this location to study and document over 120 bird species, including snow geese and semipalmated sandpipers.

A designated 500-meter trail provides access to observation points, with free parking available at 950 Rue Marconi in Rimouski.

Each spring, the reserve serves as a migratory stopover for approximately 25,000 snow geese traveling along the St. Lawrence River.
