Hibernia Gravity Base Structure

The Hibernia platform features a massive concrete gravity base structure supporting a 37,000-ton topsides facility located 315 kilometers from St. John's.

Initial exploration drilling for the Hibernia field extended from the 1960s through the 1980s, leading to its discovery in 1979 through the Hibernia P-15 well.

The construction phase created a temporary community of 3,500 workers in Bull Arm, complete with residential facilities and recreational infrastructure.

The platform contains storage tanks with a capacity of 1.3 million barrels of crude oil and maintains a rotating crew of 280 personnel every three weeks.

The structure weighs 600,000 tons and rests directly on the ocean floor at 80 meters depth, engineered to resist the forces of North Atlantic icebergs.
