Salle J.- Antonio-Thompson, Performance hall and heritage site in downtown Trois-Rivières, Canada.
The Salle J.-Antonio-Thompson is a three-floor performance venue with approximately 1,000 seats located in downtown Trois-Rivières. It combines historic architecture with modernized technical facilities for concerts, theater productions, and private events.
The hall was designed by architect Daniel John Crighton in 1927 and opened on April 7, 1928. The original building emerged during the city's reconstruction following the major fire of 1908.
The interior showcases Art Deco decorations with frescoes and detailed ornaments that reflect early 20th century theater design standards. These artistic elements created by Emmanuel Briffa continue to define the hall's appearance and character.
The venue sits on Des Forges Street in the downtown area and is easily accessible on foot. Modern technical systems ensure good sight lines and sound quality regardless of your seating location.
The venue was originally known as the Capitol Theater but was later renamed by the city government to honor local musician Joseph-Antonio Thompson. This renaming also saved the building from being subdivided into smaller cinema spaces.
