Ponte dei Salti

Ponte dei Salti is a double-arch stone bridge that spans the Verzasca River, linking the two sides of the valley. The structure is built from carefully fitted stone blocks that rest on solid supports anchored in the riverbed.

The bridge is built upon Roman foundations but was constructed in its present form during the 17th century. A destructive flood in 1868 caused serious damage, leading to its major reconstruction in 1960.

The bridge has served as a gathering point for valley residents for centuries and remains central to community life. Both locals and visitors cross it daily, making it an active part of everyday life in the region.

The bridge is accessible on foot year-round, though wet stones in summer can be slippery. Care is needed during heavy water flow or rainfall, especially if you plan to swim or wade in the surrounding river areas.

The river water displays an unusually vivid emerald color, especially in the calm pools beneath the bridge. This striking hue comes from minerals and light conditions, making the location visually memorable.
