Allaman Castle is a fortress on a 33-hectare estate in the Vaud region, not far from Lake Geneva. The property includes private forests, parks, gardens, and vineyards that produce premium wines.
The castle was founded in 1253 by Louis, Duke of Savoy, and later served as a refuge during political upheaval. It sheltered prominent figures who fled from conflict and unrest.
The castle reflects regional architectural styles of the Vaud area and displays building features from different periods. Visitors can trace this evolution while walking through the rooms and grounds.
The location is easily reached by train on the Lausanne-Geneva line with connections to several regional destinations. The surroundings offer plenty of space to explore, so plan for adequate time to visit.
In 1820, Count Jean-Jacques de Sellon founded the Society of Peace here, which preceded both the League of Nations and the United Nations. This early initiative for international peace took shape within the castle walls.
