Morgartenberg, Mountain summit in Schwyz region, Switzerland.
Morgartenberg is a mountain summit in the Schwyzer Alps rising to about 1,243 meters (4,078 feet) between the cantons of Schwyz and Zug. From the top, views stretch across Lake Ägeri and the surrounding alpine ridges.
The mountain's name connects to the Battle of Morgarten in 1315, a pivotal event that shaped the region's history. The nearby village adopted this name much later, in 1905, centuries after the historic conflict.
The mountain has long served as a gathering point for hikers from the surrounding cantons of Schwyz and Zug. Visitors today walk the same paths that shepherds and farmers once used, experiencing how this alpine region has been traveled and used over time.
Several marked trails lead to the summit, with the best time to hike falling during the warmer months of the year. The main route is an approximately 11-kilometer (7-mile) loop starting near Sattel that sees regular maintenance.
Among roughly 1,882 peaks in the Swiss Prealps, this mountain ranks 84th and rises about 312 meters above its surroundings. This prominence gives it a distinctive presence in the landscape despite its moderate elevation.
