Castle ruin Scheidegg

The stone ruins of Scheidegg Castle stand on elevated ground, featuring remaining walls and structural elements from its medieval construction period.

Built in 1220 by the Lords of Gelterkinden as a residential tower, the castle experienced two major fires in 1270 and 1320 before its abandonment.

The castle ruin holds class B status in the Swiss cultural property inventory, representing the architectural defensive methods of the Basel-Landschaft region.

Visitors can reach the castle ruins through a walking path from Tecknau train station, requiring approximately 25 minutes of hiking time.

The remains of this thirteenth-century fortress contain evidence of treasure hunters who unsuccessfully searched the grounds following its abandonment.
