Trostburg Castle, Medieval castle in Teufenthal, Switzerland
The stone fortress stands on elevated ground, featuring Gothic architecture with a triple-vaulted parlor and decorated living quarters of the Wolkenstein family.
Construction of the castle started in 1494, serving as a residence for the Lords of Rinach before passing to the Hallwil family through a sale by Bern in 1486.
The castle contains a loggia with coat of arms frescoes, an artistic chapel, and the New Knights Hall completed in 1618 with Renaissance decorations.
Tours of the castle last 40 to 50 minutes, with guides speaking German or Italian, while English tours require advance reservation.
The castle grounds include a medieval cobblestone path through deciduous forest, leading visitors on a 15-minute walk from Ponte Gardena.
