Dongjin Bridge

Dongjin Bridge, Ancient pontoon bridge in Ganzhou, China.

Dongjin Bridge spans 400 meters across the Gong River, resting upon approximately 100 wooden boats connected by iron chains. The entire structure allows pedestrians to cross while adapting to changing water levels.

The bridge originated during the Song Dynasty period between 960 and 1279. This early construction represents a significant example of Chinese engineering innovation from that era.

The bridge stands near Jianchunmen gate, serving as a central meeting point where merchants and locals have gathered for centuries.

The bridge maintains its original floating design and adapts flexibly to changing water levels. Visitors should be prepared for the dynamic nature of the crossing and wear appropriate footwear.

The structure is held together by traditional iron chains connecting the wooden boats, preserving ancient construction methods still visible today. This chain-connection method is rarely seen elsewhere and demonstrates how stable historical techniques can be.
