Luobin Shan, Mountain summit in Dechang County, China.
Luobin Shan is a mountain range in Dechang with around 58 peaks, many of which rise above 4,000 meters and spread across an extensive highland area. The landscape features steep ridges, grassy slopes, and lakes scattered between the mountain chains.
The mountain area was long a stronghold of traditional social structures, particularly for the Yi populations in the surrounding region. These conditions changed only relatively late in China's modern transformation.
The Yi communities around the mountain celebrate their traditions through festivals with fire, horse racing, and local food that remains part of daily life.
The mountain is easiest to reach by bus from Xichang, where you can hire local guides and rent horses to carry gear. The best time to climb is during the dry season, when trails are more stable and safer.
The mountain range holds around 36 high-altitude lakes hidden between the peaks, called Tianchi or heavenly lakes by local communities. These secluded water bodies give the terrain a particular character that only a few visitors find.
