Kino Aero, Independent movie theater in Žižkov district, Prague, Czech Republic

Kino Aero is a single-screen cinema in a standalone Functionalist building from 1930–33, designed by Jindřich Freiwald and set in the courtyard of a residential block at Biskupcova 1733/31 in Prague-Žižkov. The hall, reduced to 323 seats, has a bar seating 80 and shows 35 mm, 16 mm and digital formats up to 4K.

The standalone functionalist building in the courtyard of Biskupcova 1733/31 was designed by Jindřich Freiwald and built between 1930 and 1933. The cinema opened on 10 November 1933 with actors Vladimír Slavínský, Lída Baarová, Hugo Haas and Antonie Nedošinská present. Renovations in 1959, 1998 and 2001 lowered capacity from 648 to 336 seats and added a bar and new projection equipment.

The theater draws people who care about cinema as an art form, showing films that studios rarely distribute widely. Visitors find a community of film lovers gathered around thoughtful programming choices.

The theater opens early and stays open until late evening, allowing visitors flexibility in choosing screening times throughout the day. The bar space provides a comfortable area to spend time before the film starts or to discuss what you have just seen.

Since April 2007 Kino Aero has shared the Osa 9 brand with three other Prague art houses, Světozor, Evald and Mat, because tram line 9 links all four. The cinema also hosts live broadcasts of Metropolitan Opera performances from New York and Pecha Kucha Night presentations on architecture and design.
