Church of Adelhausen in Freiburg im Breisgau

The Adelhausen Church is a Baroque building with a large nave, thick wall pillars, and Tuscan pilasters that frame a central courtyard. The structure features a gabled roof and solid masonry walls, where the regular spacing of its supporting elements creates a measured visual rhythm.

The building was constructed in the late 1600s with financial backing from King Louis XIV, giving it a strong Baroque character. Just years after completion, the structure suffered major damage when a section of the vault collapsed in 1693, requiring extensive repairs.

The church sits within a quiet courtyard in the city center, where visitors find a place for reflection surrounded by religious artworks from different periods. The space invites a meditative mood, where people can pause and take in the sacred objects without hurry or distraction.

The building houses a magnificent organ built between 1744 and 1746 by the organ builder Johann Georg Fischer. This historical instrument was completely restored in 2017 to match its original specifications and now sounds with its authentic voice.
