Akademie Waldschlösschen, Educational center and LGBTQ+ association in Gleichen, Germany
The Akademie Waldschlösschen operates as an educational institution and conference center between Göttingen and Heiligenstadt in Lower Saxony, offering numerous seminars and workshops.
Originally built in 1904 as Kurhotel Waldschlösschen, the building was transformed into an educational institution in 1981 and received its current name in 2000.
The institution emerged from the German gay movement of the 1970s and now serves as a central location for LGBTQ+ organizations, offering training and networking opportunities.
The academy welcomes 6,000 participants annually for 300 events, providing educational programs focused on social commitment, health awareness, and anti-discrimination initiatives.
Following the opening of the inner-German border in 1989, the academy's location shifted to become centrally positioned in Germany, just five kilometers from the former divide.
