Goethe Tower, Wooden observation tower in Sachsenhausen, Germany

The 43-meter-tall wooden structure with 196 steps provides views of Frankfurt's skyline and the surrounding Regionalpark Rhein-Main from its covered observation platform.

Built in 1931 with funds from Gustav Gerst and municipal wood donations, the tower was destroyed by arson in 2017 and reconstructed between 2019 and 2020.

Named after Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, the tower replaced an earlier 22-meter observation platform called Goetheruhe that stood 80 meters north of the current location.

The tower opens from May through October, with access by bus line 48, and includes an adjacent park featuring a giant slide and maze for families.

Until 1999, this wooden construction held the title of Germany's tallest publicly accessible wooden structure, built on massive sandstone foundations at each corner.
