St. Stephen's Church, Gothic parish church in Mainz-Altstadt, Germany
The church features a triple nave layout with choirs at both ends and an octagonal bell tower rising above the western section.
Archbishop Willigis established the original church in 990 as a place of prayer for the Empire, with construction of the current structure completed in 1340.
The interior walls display nine stained glass windows created by Marc Chagall between 1978 and 1985, depicting scenes from the Old Testament in blue tones.
The church welcomes over 200,000 visitors annually and provides guided tours through the local tourist office to explore its architectural elements and artworks.
The Gothic baptismal font from 1330 remains in active use for ceremonies, connecting modern religious practices with the church's medieval origins.
