Älterer Dalberger Hof, Renaissance palace at Ballplatz, Mainz, Germany.
The Older Dalberger Palace is a palace complex at Ballplatz featuring a late Gothic residential tower, a former chapel, and Renaissance structures with corner bay windows. The property was later expanded with baroque garden areas and now contains various residential units of different sizes.
The palace evolved from the Red House Court, which belonged to the Counts of Eppstein-Königstein in 1463 before the Barons of Dalberg acquired it in 1597. A baroque main portal was added in 1710, followed by a new staircase and rear terrace garden.
The English Ladies established a girls' school here in 1846, which still operates today as the only institution of its kind in the city. The building and its educational role have shaped the area's social and religious character.
The palace is located on the central Ballplatz and is easy to reach on foot, with Renaissance and baroque architecture visible from the street. Visitors can explore the exterior structures and garden areas without any special requirements or advance booking.
The mansion combines several architectural periods within a single structure, with Gothic, Renaissance, and baroque features existing side by side. This layering of different style periods makes it a rare example of architectural development across multiple centuries.
