Groß Karben station, Railway station with heritage status in Karben, Germany
Groß Karben is a railway station in Karben with a two-story building that has a pitched roof and a projecting entrance section. The station sits at the 178.4-kilometer mark of the Main-Weser Railway and has two platforms serving three tracks.
The station opened on May 10, 1850, as part of the railway link from Frankfurt to Friedberg. It was already operating before the full Main-Weser Railway was completed in 1852.
The building is the last remaining original structure from when the Main-Weser Railway first opened and is protected as a heritage monument. It shows what railway architecture looked like in this region during the 19th century.
Trains of the S6 line from Rhine-Main S-Bahn stop here regularly during the day and connect to the wider region. The station is easy to reach on foot and the platforms are straightforward to access.
The station was the site of a railway accident in 1907 that left two people injured. This event remains a piece of the location's past railway history.
