Beatlemania Hamburg, Music museum in St. Pauli, Hamburg, Germany
Beatlemania Hamburg was a music museum in St. Pauli, spread across five floors with eleven exhibition rooms dedicated to The Beatles. A model of a yellow submarine hung above the entrance, making the building easy to spot from the street.
The museum opened in 2009 and closed in 2012, focusing on the Beatles' early years in Hamburg during the 1960s. The band performed in clubs near the Reeperbahn during that period, before becoming known across the world.
The museum recreated Große Freiheit street as it looked in the 1960s, when the Beatles played there regularly. Walking through the replica gave visitors a sense of what the neighborhood felt like at the time.
The museum is no longer open, so it is worth checking in advance if any related exhibition or event has taken its place in the area. Those interested in the Beatles' time in Hamburg can still find traces of that period in the streets around the Reeperbahn.
Despite operating for only three years, the museum displayed over 1,000 objects, including early photographs and personal items belonging to band members. Much of the collection focused on the Hamburg years, which many consider the period that shaped the band more than any other.
