Bordesholm Gerichtslinde

The Bordesholm Gerichtslinde was a linden tree that stood in the town center, reaching about 18 meters in height with a trunk diameter of roughly 2.3 meters. It dominated the local landscape with its large frame and served as a visual focal point for the community.

For more than 700 years, this tree functioned as a gathering place for village courts and council meetings until the early 19th century. This long role as a center of local justice and governance made it a symbol of the town's history and authority.

The tree held such importance for the town that it appears on the official coat of arms of Bordesholm, shaping the identity of the place. Visitors can still feel this connection today through local symbols and conversations about the community's past.

The tree was removed on May 29, 2018, so it is no longer visible at the site. Visitors interested in learning about it can ask locals or check community museums to discover more about its role in the town's identity.
