Brauerei zur Malzmühle

Brauerei zur Malzmühle is a brewery in Altstadt-Süd that has brewed Kölsch beer using traditional recipes for generations. The building displays old wooden beams, small windows, and narrow staircases that are typical of older Cologne buildings.

The building was founded in 1858 as a brewery and malt extract steam brewery. The current name dates to 1912, when a new owner took over the house and modernized it.

The name comes from the mill that once stood on this site. Visitors can still see the wood-paneled rooms where the traditional brewing craft unfolds in a cozy setting.

The venue is centrally located in the old town and is easy to reach by public transport. The beer garden area has a mixed set of old and newer elements, so visitors should be flexible about cleanliness and comfort standards.

The waiters have carried special round trays with multiple glasses at once for decades, a skill they perform with speed and precision. This tradition is unique to Cologne breweries and part of the local craft.
