Augustusburg Hunting Lodge

Augustusburg is a hunting lodge situated on elevated terrain in Saxony featuring Renaissance architecture blended with Italian design elements. The building houses historical chambers alongside a motorcycle museum displaying a significant collection of vehicles from different periods.

Elector Augustus commissioned construction between 1568 and 1572, replacing an earlier castle that had stood on the hilltop. The structure reflects Renaissance building traditions and evolved with new functions as time progressed.

The lodge takes its name from the Saxon ruler who commissioned it and serves as a window into Renaissance hunting culture and noble life of that era. Visitors move through rooms that reveal the tastes and pastimes of the aristocracy through furnishings and displayed objects.
