Burg Wallrabenstein, Medieval castle ruins in Wallrabenstein, Germany
The stone fortification displays a shield wall with a hexagonal corner turret, a round turret, and remnants of the main tower structure.
Count Walram IV of Nassau-Idstein commissioned the castle around 1390 to protect the northeastern border of Nassau territory and the nearby village of Holtzhausen.
The castle earned the 2024 Hessian Monument Protection Prize, recognizing its architectural value and preservation efforts within the German heritage landscape.
The castle ruins underwent extensive restoration work in 2022, including the reconstruction of wall crowns using trass-lime mortar and new joint filling.
The fortress walls maintain uniform thickness throughout the structure, with reinforced sections strategically placed along the main defense sides.
