Burg Wanzleben, Medieval castle in Wanzleben-Börde, Germany
The fortress stands with its 30-meter-high tower as one of the largest lowland castles throughout the European continent.
The Lords of Wanzleben maintained the castle from the 12th to 14th century as vassals of Gandersheim monastery until financial issues forced its sale in 1378.
The castle grounds hold events throughout the year, including traditional German theatrical dining experiences called Krimidinner.
Visitors can access the castle at Am Amt 1 in Wanzleben-Börde, which functions as both a hotel and an event venue for special occasions.
Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte and his armies made this castle their temporary residence during their military campaigns through Germany.
