Welschbillig Castle, Medieval castle ruins in Welschbillig, Germany.

The castle features a quadrangular structure with moats, two round towers at the gateway, and a stone bridge spanning the water defenses.

Initially constructed around 1140 on a Roman villa site, the castle underwent major fortification enhancements between 1242 and 1299 under Prince-Elector Arnold II.

The castle grounds contain remains of a Roman water basin measuring 58 meters by 17 meters, which originally displayed 112 decorative hermas.

Visitors can access the castle ruins throughout the year at Burgstrasse 154 in Welschbillig, with inquiries handled at phone number 0049 6506 250.

French troops destroyed the castle during the Dutch War of 1673-1674, and its southern section was removed in 1889 for church construction.
