Daetz-Centrum, Wooden sculpture museum in Lichtenstein, Germany
The Daetz-Centrum was a museum of wooden sculpture in Lichtenstein Castle displaying more than 550 carved works from five continents. The collection included pieces from Africa, Asia, America, and other regions arranged in dedicated exhibition rooms.
The Marlene and Peter Daetz Foundation established the museum in 2001 to collect and display international wooden sculpture art. The project closed in 2022 after operating for over 20 years as an art institution.
The collection displays carved wood from many cultures, including Makonde works from Africa and wooden art from Asia. Visitors can see regional craftsmanship techniques and different artistic traditions reflected in the pieces.
The museum closed in 2018, but interested visitors can explore the collections through virtual 3D tours on the Daetz Foundation website. These online visits allow you to view the exhibition rooms from home.
A miniature version of the museum has been displayed since 2009 in the Klein-Erzgebirge miniature park in Oederan. This model shows how the institution left an impression on the local region.
