Diakonissenkrankenhaus Augsburg, Neogothic hospital and heritage monument in Augsburg, Germany.
Diakonissenkrankenhaus Augsburg is a hospital and architectural monument in the city, built with distinctive red brick in a neogothic style. The building complex displays ornate details characteristic of that construction period in the late 1800s.
The facility was founded in 1855 by a nurse from Strasbourg who initially treated patients in a rented apartment, establishing Protestant medical care in the city. The current brick structure was built decades later with support from a substantial financial bequest.
The construction of the hospital building in 1891 was made possible through the financial inheritance of Countess Stephanie Guiot du Ponteil.
The building is located on Frölichstraße in a central area near the main railway station. The site is easily accessible on foot and continues to serve as an active medical facility for the community.
During World War II, the facility operated as a military reserve hospital and sustained damage from bombing raids on the city. This period reflects how the institution adapted to wartime demands.
