Ruine Mandelberg, Medieval castle ruin in Pfalzgrafenweiler, Germany.
Ruine Mandelberg is a castle complex on a hilltop near Pfalzgrafenweiler featuring a prominent stone tower and extensive foundation walls. The site spans multiple levels and clearly shows how defensive and residential areas were organized within the fortification.
The fortress was founded in the 11th century and later became the stronghold of the von Eberstein family. It was destroyed in the early 16th century and remained abandoned from that time onward.
The ruin displays the construction style of a medieval fortification with its characteristic stone structure and visible remains from different building periods. Visitors can see how the fortress was modified and expanded over centuries through the varying wall techniques.
The climb to the ruin requires sturdy footwear due to the hiking trail and uneven ground at the site. Ascending the tower offers wide views over the surrounding landscape and valleys.
The tower rises noticeably above the surroundings and served originally as an observation post to monitor the valleys below. Its restored form still allows visitors today to enjoy the same views that the original fortress residents once had.
