Erholungspark Lößnig-Dölitz, Recreational park in southern Leipzig, Germany
Erholungspark Lößnig-Dölitz spans 95 hectares and combines meadows, forests, and water surfaces into one large recreational area. Three ponds connected by walking and cycling paths form the main features, along with a six-hectare arboretum that displays numerous tree varieties.
The site was mined for brown coal until 1959, then transformed into a public recreational park between 1975 and 1984. This conversion changed industrial ground into a green space for public enjoyment and relaxation.
The park serves as a place where visitors explore tree species from North America, Asia, and Europe displayed together in one location. These diverse plantings create a green space that connects people to different parts of the world through nature.
The park has playgrounds, a restaurant, and easy access to public transport via tram lines 10 and 16. Visitors can walk, cycle, or picnic comfortably with facilities spread throughout the area.
Silbersee lake formed when an unfilled mining tunnel collapsed naturally, creating a funnel-shaped depression that filled with water. This dramatic geological event left a visible reminder of what happened underground before the park existed.
