The Mittelmünster Benedictine monastery stands between Obermünsterstrasse and St. Peters Way in the historic center of Regensburg.
Bishop Wolfgang of Regensburg established the Mittelmünster monastery in 983, dedicating it to Saint Paul with Friederun as its first abbess.
The monastery followed strict Benedictine rules, emphasizing communal life, prayer, and work while maintaining a library of religious and historical texts.
The original monastery buildings were completely destroyed during the 1809 Battle of Regensburg when French forces attacked the city.
After its dissolution in 1588, the monastery transformed into a Jesuit college, which later evolved into a Catholic seminary for priests.
