Benediktinerinnenkloster Mittelmünster, Regensburg, Benedictine monastery in Regensburg, Germany

The Benedictine monastery of Mittelmünster was a convent for women located between Obermünsterstrasse and St. Peters Way in central Regensburg. The complex included living quarters, a prayer hall, a cloister garden, and a library holding religious and historical manuscripts.

Bishop Wolfgang founded the monastery in 983 and dedicated it to Saint Paul with Friederun as its first abbess. The original buildings were completely destroyed in 1809 during military combat in the city.

The monastery was a community where women lived according to strict Benedictine rules, dedicating themselves to prayer, work, and learning. Visitors can still sense the presence of this female-centered religious community in Regensburg's old town today.

The site is located in Regensburg's old town and easily reached on foot, with the area characterized by narrow streets and medieval buildings. The neighborhood is best explored by walking, as many other historical sites lie nearby.

After the monastery was dissolved in 1588, Jesuits took over the site and built a college there. This institution later became a seminary for training priests and shaped the location for centuries to come.
