Klosterkirche Maria Medingen, Dominican convent church in Mödingen, Germany
Klosterkirche Maria Medingen is a church in Mödingen featuring a rectangular interior organized into four bays with a narrowed three-sided choir section. The space is articulated by red stucco marble pilasters topped with Corinthian capitals.
The monastery was established in 1246 by Count Hartmann IV of Dillingen and his wife Willibirgis. The present church building was constructed between 1716 and 1721 under the direction of architect Dominikus Zimmermann.
The interior displays Baroque features with red stucco marble pilasters and Corinthian capitals that define the sacred space. The Dominican sisters who reside here use the building daily for prayer and daily worship.
The church complex is maintained by the Dillinger Franciscan Sisters who live on the grounds. One of the auxiliary buildings houses a Montessori kindergarten, indicating the site remains actively used.
Johann Baptist Zimmermann created ceiling frescoes between 1719 and 1722 depicting the Last Supper in the choir surrounded by Old Testament themes. These artworks significantly shape the visual character of the interior.
