Schwaltenweiher, reservoir
Schwaltenweiher is an artificial reservoir near Seeg in the Allgäu region with a U-shaped shoreline and shallow edges that create calm water suitable for swimming. The water comes from natural springs and remains clear, with a beach area, grassy sunbathing spots, volleyball courts, and boat rentals available for visitors.
The lake was constructed as a reservoir and developed into a recreation area for local residents over time. Infrastructure gradually expanded with changing facilities, dining options, and sports amenities to meet the needs of growing visitor numbers.
The name Schwaltenweiher comes from an old mill called Schwaltenmühle that once stood nearby, and locals have passed down stories about it through generations. Simple farmhouses around the water reflect the rural lifestyle of the area and keep the lake rooted in everyday community life.
The lake is easily reached from Seeg and has plenty of parking and an on-site restaurant for food and drinks. Check opening hours and arrive early on warm days for the best spots, especially when visiting with family.
The 8-Lakes Route connects this lake with seven other nearby lakes in the region, offering cyclists a scenic cycling path through the Allgäu landscape. This trail makes it possible to explore multiple lakes on a single bike ride and see different parts of the region's nature.
