Museum Oberschönenfeld

Museum Oberschönenfeld occupies former farm buildings of a Cistercian convent and displays exhibits about rural life in the region. The collections document everyday life in central Swabia with focus on the period from 1900 onward.

The convent at Oberschönenfeld dates back to the Middle Ages, though most buildings visible today were constructed in the 1700s. After 1972, when the convent ceased farming operations, these structures were preserved and converted into a museum.

The displays showcase household items and photographs from Swabia that reveal local stories and traditions of the region. Visitors encounter personal artifacts and records that tell how people in this area lived across different times.

The museum is located in a rural area and is best reached by car, as public transport connections are limited. Wear comfortable shoes for the visit since exhibits are spread across multiple buildings on the grounds.

An old barn from 1743 houses the Swabian Gallery, where regional artists display their work and contemporary art connects with the location's past. This arrangement shows how historic spaces can embrace new cultural expressions.
