Schloss Marzoll

Schloss Marzoll is a Renaissance castle in Bad Reichenhall featuring a cubic main body with four round corner towers arranged symmetrically. The structure displays the balanced proportions typical of Renaissance architecture from this period.

Construction took place between 1527 and 1536 under the Fröschl family, establishing it as a stronghold in the region. Major renovations in 1837 replaced the original domed towers with stone parapets, altering its appearance significantly.

The ceiling paintings on the second floor were created by Benedikt Zöpf and reveal the artistic tastes that German noble families valued during the 18th century. These decorations show how much care was taken to express wealth and refinement through interior design.

The property remains privately owned and not open to the public, so visitors should observe it from public areas and respect boundary markers. The best views are available from the road, where the architecture can be photographed and appreciated from a distance.

The castle stands as one of Bavaria's earliest examples of Italian Renaissance style and introduced novel architectural forms to the region. This influence from southern European design set an important precedent for how regional architecture developed thereafter.
